Making Baby’s Baby Bed Comfortable

Newborns sleep for about 16 hours per day. That means that parents need to make sure that their baby’s bed is comfortable and cozy because otherwise, they might not get the rest they need. Baby bedding is an important element of making a baby bed comfortable. Here are 5 ways to make your baby’s baby bed as comfortable as possible:

1) Baby mattress – good quality mattresses provide comfy stretching space with enough support in all the right places so avoid buying second-hand, used mattresses if you can afford it because chances are you won’t know exactly when it was last replaced. This will ensure your baby’s safety while sleeping in his or her crib. Also, consider using thicker mattress pads to make the baby bed even more comfortable.

2) Baby mattress pad – most crib mattresses are encased in tightly woven mesh material that allows air to circulate freely through it. This helps reduce moisture but you can still add an extra level of protection by using a mattress pad under your baby’s sheets which will securely hold the top sheet in place and absorb any spills, accidents, or leakage that might otherwise seep through into the mattress.

3) Baby pillow – pillows increase the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). While they can provide extra support for infants’ heads, they should not be used until the child is at least one year old. If you do use a pillow, it should be thin and flatter rather than thicker or very high. Baby pillows can also be a suffocation hazard for younger infants so it’s best to wait until the baby is at least a year old before giving him or her a pillow to sleep on.

4) Baby duvet – duvets are not recommended because they pose a risk of choking and asphyxia because babies can wrap it around their heads while asleep. Also, duvets provide extra insulation which makes it easy for them to overheat and this, in turn, increases the risk of SIDS.

5) Baby sheets – use cotton or fleece sheets instead of woolen ones as these materials provide better ventilation than fibers like wool which heat up easily and do not allow the baby’s skin to breathe.

With these 5 easy steps, you should be able to make your baby’s bed as comfortable as possible.
